What Makes an Outdoor Sauna Special?
An outdoor sauna combines the sauna experience with a location of your choice in the garden or on the patio. Unlike an indoor sauna, it requires a weatherproof structure and stronger insulation. The foundation, roof, and electrical connection must also be suitable for the location.
The big advantage: You don’t have to set aside any living space inside your home for your outdoor sauna. At the same time, the sauna house can be designed to complement the architecture and surroundings. The floor plan, wood, glazing, colors, and amenities are all tailored to your preferences. This creates your very own outdoor wellness area.
A garden sauna also offers more design freedom than many standardized solutions, such as a barrel sauna or a sauna barrel. At Küng, the project isn’t dictated by predetermined dimensions. What matters most are the available space, the intended use, and a design that blends seamlessly into your home.
Our Garden Sauna Models
The main advantages of an outdoor sauna:
- No space required indoors: The sauna has its own spot in the garden or on the patio.
- Custom Design: Dimensions, wood, colors, windows, and finishes can be chosen to complement the house and lot.
- Close to nature: Large glass panels offer a view of the garden and the surrounding area while you're in the sauna.
- Flexible layout planning: Depending on the available space, the garden sauna can be designed to include an entryway, a coat closet, or a shower.
- Separate wellness area: The physical separation from the living area creates a dedicated space for the sauna and relaxation.
Where is the best place to put a garden sauna?
Choosing the right spot for your garden sauna will determine how your sauna experience feels later on. Perhaps a large window offers a view of the natural pond. Perhaps the shortest route after your sauna session leads straight to the garden shower or the pool. On a rooftop terrace, on the other hand, a compact outdoor sauna can transform a previously underutilized area into a private retreat.
The orientation of the windows also deserves attention: Generous glazing creates a different atmosphere when it offers an unobstructed view of greenery versus a view of the neighbor’s property.
We therefore tailor the location to the intended use and the architecture of your home. A compact sauna cabin for two people requires a different solution than a larger outdoor sauna in the garden with an entryway and shower. At the same time, the structural requirements must be met. A suitable foundation, electrical connection, and protection from the elements must be included in the planning from the very beginning.

Customize Your Outdoor Sauna
A custom-built outdoor sauna blends seamlessly with the architecture of your home and the design of your garden. Instead of conforming to predetermined shapes or dimensions, we’ll work with you to determine exactly what your personalized sauna house should look like.
Wood types, colors, glazing, and lighting all shape the ambiance of the outdoor sauna. Generous windows open up a view of the garden, while strategically placed privacy screens ensure seclusion. The interior layout can also be tailored to your preferences, from the arrangement of the loungers to your choice of sauna technology, right down to the option of combining it with an infrared sauna.
The planning process takes into account not only the design but also the intended use. A compact garden sauna for two people focuses on the sauna room itself and space-saving features. For a larger sauna house, an antechamber or a shower can also be incorporated into the design. The available space is transformed into an outdoor sauna where you’ll feel right at home from your very first session.
Spacious panoramic windows offer a view of the garden and incorporate the surroundings into the sauna experience. The Nido Outdoor can be installed, for example, by the pool or on a rooftop terrace. A suitable foundation is required. The load-bearing capacity must be taken into account: The Nido Outdoor XL, including the entrance area, weighs approximately 2,350 kg, corresponding to a line load of 280 kg per running meter of wall.
For an outdoor sauna, an insulation value of at least 0.5 W/m²K is recommended; for windows, a U-value of 1.0 W/m²K or lower. The Nido Outdoor is insulated on the ceiling, walls, and floor, and features heat-insulating glass in its glazed areas.
The sauna house is delivered in one piece and, aside from the prepared foundation, requires no further construction work for installation. Materials, features, and design can be selected to suit the location and your personal preferences.
Equipment for Your Outdoor Sauna
The features play a key role in determining how you use your outdoor sauna. That’s why the seating areas, lighting, glazing, and sauna technology are tailored to your habits and the sauna experience you desire right from the planning stage.
