10 tips for an atmospheric feel-good bathroom
The bathroom is increasingly becoming a private retreat that should contribute significantly to relaxation. With these tips from interior expert Nicole Gottschall, every wet room becomes a feel-good bathroom.
Light for all relaxation positions
The lighting of a room is decisive for the feeling of well-being. In the bathroom, however, this topic is often neglected. Here, particular attention should be paid to the interplay of different light sources. Spots are ideal for ceiling lighting, but they should be directional rather than flooded. Good basic lighting can also be achieved by using luminaires with fabric shades (don't worry, they don't mind the damp climate!). In addition, you need a light source directly above the mirror. Indirect light is best because no shadows should be cast on the face. A make-up mirror with lighting is ideal - these are even available with battery operation. For moments of relaxation, candles are a must in the bathroom. They look particularly beautiful in large lanterns. If you don't have enough space, you can hang lanterns above the bathtub. LED candles are easy to use, but provide soft light and are extremely decorative.
Dip into colour
Colour is currently making a big comeback in the home - and the bathroom is no exception. To make the room look larger, the floor and walls should be painted in the same colour. Incidentally, the ceiling is also being painted more and more often. Visual liveliness is then achieved by playing with different tiles, sizes or materials. There are even wallpapers that are suitable for damp rooms. Contrasts of light (room structure) and dark (wood, textiles) create tension. For an intimate and cosy bathroom, dark colour nuances should be chosen.
Laying a sound carpet
Heavy metal, pop or the sounds of nature - music is a popular means of turning up, coming down or going on a journey of thought. From this point of view, it definitely belongs in the bathroom! Acoustic systems built into the walls or furniture are of course ideal, but small, compact, sometimes even wireless devices (for example from Sonos or Bose) are just as suitable. They have enough power to create a sound carpet that makes you feel good going into or out of the day.
Decorate walls
While bare walls are hardly ever found in living rooms, the bathroom is often a yawning void. Yet a bathroom can also be very well decorated with pictures, photos or works of art or even carved wall panels (especially guest bathrooms!). Behind glazed frames, everything is well protected against warm water vapour and splashing water. And the wall decoration will immediately improve the homeliness. If you don't want to drill into tiled walls, adhesive hooks are a good solution.
Growing relaxation
Houseplants are very much back in fashion. And it is not unusual for them to inhabit bathrooms. Because here they conjure up a lively place of well-being out of a sterile room. Green and flowering like nature - that feels good at first sight. Aero plants (also called "air roots") are particularly suitable for small bathrooms, succulents also feel very comfortable in the warm, humid climate of a bathroom and even artificial plants are allowed again. Artificial deer antler fern in combination with branches (for example Ghostwood) creates a great eye-catcher.
Attractive helpers
Many things in the bathroom have a very practical background: waste bins, soap dishes or toothbrush tubs do not have to look purely functional. They can also combine the useful with the beautiful: Dressed in matt gold or trendy copper, for example, bathroom accessories look much better. Material and colour trends can be easily picked up in them, and at the same time a personal touch is added to the bathroom.
