The treasure of the Finnish forests
It is not without reason that Santa Claus is said to live in the north of Finland. The endless expanse of the landscape with its picturesque, dark green fir forests and lakes that look as if they have been dotted along has magic. The region from the 60th parallel also holds another treasure: polar pine wood.
Finland's gold and its properties
Along with spruce, fir and larch, the wood of the polar pine is of particularly high quality: it has a high fibre density and closely spaced annual rings. This is why the Finns naturally know that of all their natural treasures, Finnish polar pine wood is best suited for lining sauna cabins. It is not only extremely robust, but also particularly dimensionally stable - ideal for the extreme temperature conditions in the sauna. With its lively structure, it also meets the highest aesthetic demands. And polar pine also flatters the sense of smell: its aromatic resinous scent lasts for decades and always has a consistently calming effect.
We take the Finns as our role model twice over
No wonder that Küng relies on polar pine wood from Northern Finland with such characteristics! We also attach great importance to sustainability when it comes to our suppliers: we have been sourcing wood for sauna construction from the sawmill and planing mill Pölkky Oy from Kuusamo for several decades. The family-run company is a particularly responsible partner that has good contacts with the forest owners and is very prudent in its forestry. A great deal of focus is placed on reforestation. Once the trees are felled, they are debarked, sawn, dried, planed and sanded with great dedication at Pölkky Oy.
